What a place! A beautiful city on a stunning sandy beach. We loved the contrast between the traditional gothic architecture of the old town, with its amazing daily food market (open 9-3) and traditional alfresco tapas bars, against the modern contemporary architecture of the city of art, science museum and the beautiful park Turin.
On arriving into Valencia we parked Zeb (the van) at the beachfront along side a handful of other motorhomers. We’ve been on the road for a week and only paid 6€ in total for accommodation!! Totally love a bargain!!
To wake up to this beach view was priceless in every sense!
We arrived late in the day so spent the evening letting the kids loose at the play park, sampling the tapas and sangria at the beach bars watching the sunset.
We walked into the old town the next morning which was probably a little far to walk (for the kiddies) especially given there was a bus stop 10 yards from where we’d parked the van. After an hours walk in the blazing sun we arrived and weren’t disappointed
Valencia Must Do’s……..
Mercado central
Located across from Llotja de la Sedan and the Church of the Juanes, it’s a beautiful example of Valencian Art Nouveau. This market is the perfect place to stock up on local produce or have a beer at the tapas bar. Make sure you arrive before 3pm!
Have a cocktail on the Marina…..
We cycled along the beach front to the Marina to show the kids the boats. The promenade of Malvarrosa and Las Arenas have a great selection of cocktail bars and seafood restaurants
Hire a bike!
If you haven’t got your own bikes with you, hire them! Cycling is definitely the best way to see the city with cycle routes connecting every part. I was nervous about cycling on the road with the kids but we didn’t need to as there were cycle paths everywhere.
Have a picnic in the Turia gardens
This park connects most of the city and is bustling with cyclists, runners, families enjoying the many play parks, yoga groups, locals.
Eat Ice cream made to order!
If like us- you have a sweet tooth, make your first stop -Ice Wave!
In summary, Valencia has a big thumbs up from the 4 of us! It’s a fun city that has every element for a great European city break!
